2017 Audi TT RS Unveiled on Beijing Motor Show

The TT is already one of the more stellar performing coupes out there and Audi AG has just added some extra oomph to its two-door sports car. The German automaker unveiled the new TT RS at the Beijing Motor Show in both Coupe and Roadster body styles. The new TT RS can be distinguished thanks to the revised front bumper with larger vents, while the new rear bumper gets the trademark �RS� oval pipes.

Cosmetic upgrades also include new side skirts, LED headlamps, carbon fibre ORVM caps, permanent rear wing that is available as optional. The new TT RS also becomes the first series-production Audi to get Matrix OLED technology (organic light emitting diode) in its rear lights as an option.

Under the hood, what really changes over the standard Audi TT is the overwhelming power output that comes from the redeveloped version of the 2.5-litre turbocharged in-line, five-cylinder engine with a new aluminium block. As a result, the motor has shed weight by 10 kg, while power figures are uprated to 395bhp and 480Nm of torque.

The five-cylinder motor comes paired to a standard 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and comes with steering mounted paddle shifts. Purists might be disappointed as the manual gearbox has been given a miss completely. What you do get though is more traction, courtesy of the permanent Quattro All-Wheel Drive with a multi-plate clutch that distributes power freely between axles.

Doing justice to its performance badge, the Audi TT RS is capable of doing the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.7 seconds for the Coupe and 3.9 seconds on the Convertible. To give you perspective, that's just 0.2 seconds slower than the new R8 V10 Coupe, which does the same sprint in 3.5 seconds. Furthermore, Audi has made several mechanical changes including lowering the suspension setup by 10mm to improve handling, while one also gets the option of a sportier suspension setup with adaptive dampers in magnetic ride technology.

Braking performance comes from the massive 370mm disc brakes on the standard Audi TT RS with 19-inch wheels. Owners can also upgrade to carbon-fibre ceramic brake discs available as optional along with 20-inch alloys.
